Thai airports may open flagged checked bags without owners

Thai airports may now open a checked bag without its owner present when screening flags a suspicious item. The rule took effect on 16 October and requires reasonable grounds to suspect a dangerous or prohibited item; the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand says it does not permit routine opening of bags. Each inspection is recorded, and a notice is left inside the bag.

Gulf News lists the change among the rules UAE travellers should know before the New Year period, and notes that the Thailand Digital Arrival Card must be completed within the three days before arrival. The authority advises passengers to use internationally recognised locks.
